Doc Allen - Chronicles

Sierra Nevada · Cinematic Country Soul

Born and raised in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Wildland firefighter. Electronics engineer. Physician. U.S. Air Force Captain. Retired veteran. Before he became a recording artist, Doc Allen helped shape the early language of digital music. In the mid-1980s he built Inspire — a MIDI workstation with freeform recording, copy and paste, and complete songs as unified works, at a time when computers had 64 kilobytes of memory and no hard drives. Passport Designs licensed it and took it to market under their own name. It became a foundation of the modern DAW. His name never appeared on it. A service injury brought partial hearing loss and years of silence. Better hearing aids brought him back. His music is cinematic, emotionally honest, and spiritually rooted. It sounds like the Sierra Nevada looks at dusk — wide open, a little rugged, and quietly beautiful.
